Zooey Claire Deschanel
was born January 17, 1980, in Los Angeles, Califonia, the daughter of Caleb Deschanel (Oscar-nominated cinematographer) and Mary Jo Deschanel (actress). She has one sister, Emily Deschanel, also an actress. She was named after a character in J.D. Salinger's "Franny and Zooey", and her first name is pronounced "Zoo-ee".
Prior to her role in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, she has appeared in several movies, including Almost Famous (2000), Big Trouble (2002), and as Jovie in the 2003 holiday hit "Elf", with Will Ferrell.
Zooey Deschanel plays the role of Trillian (aka - Tricia McMillian) in the 2005 big budget Disney movie, "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy."
