Slartibartfast is a member of the race living on the legendary planet of Magrathea, a planet known throughout the galaxy for creating custom built planets, and is particularly fond of decorating the coastlines of his assigned section(s) with fjords. He was responsible for the creation of the fjords in Norway when his race was commissioned by the hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings to create the planet Earth, and even won an award for them.
His name is not important.
The character of Slartibartfast was played by Richard Vernon in the TV series, and is played by Bill Nighy in the 2005 big budget Disney movie, "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy".
