Arthur Philip Dent is an ape-descended member of the community of humans living on planet Earth. He is the main character of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, and never could get the hang of Thursdays.
As one of only two humans to escape from the planet Earth before its destruction by the Vogon Constructor Fleet in order to make way for a hyperspace bypass, Arthur spends most of his time wandering the galaxy with his best friend, Ford Prefect, a field researcher for the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
He is from Earth, but throughout the series, he manages to visit places such as a Vogon ship, the Heart of Gold, the legendary planet of Magrathea, Milliways, the B Ark of the Golgafrinchams, and even prehistoric Earth.
The character of Arthur Dent was played by Simon Jones in the TV series, and is played by Martin Freeman in the 2005 big budget Disney movie, "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". |
